Your Website Is Your Best Knowledge Source
The most common question we hear from new users is: "How do I make my chatbot actually know about my business?" The answer is simpler than you might think - feed it your website.
Morv's Knowledge Base crawls your web pages, extracts the meaningful content, and makes it searchable by your chatbot. Here's how to set it up.
Step 1: Add Your Pages
Open the Knowledge Base page in your project and click "Add Source". You have three options:
- Single URL - add individual pages like your pricing page, FAQ, or product pages
- Sitemap - paste your sitemap URL and Morv will discover and import all your pages automatically
- Upload File - add a document (TXT, PDF or Word .docx) for content that isn't on a public page, such as a price list or a policy
You can also write questions and answers yourself as custom answers, for anything your website doesn't cover.
Step 2: Wait for Crawling
Morv processes your pages in the background. The crawler fetches each page, strips away navigation, footers, and boilerplate, then extracts the core content. You can monitor progress on the Knowledge page - each source shows its status (for example pending, completed or failed).
Step 3: Enable Knowledge in Your Chatbot
Knowledge search is switched on automatically when you add your first source. To check, open your chatbot's Settings and make sure "AI Knowledge Base" is enabled. Your chatbot will then search your content when answering questions.
Tips for Better Results
- Keep pages focused - a dedicated FAQ page works better than one massive page covering everything
- Use clear headings - the crawler uses your heading structure to understand content hierarchy
- Set up auto-recrawl - if your content changes frequently, enable daily or weekly recrawling to keep your chatbot up to date (new sitemaps are re-checked weekly by default)
- Add custom headers - if your site requires authentication, you can configure custom HTTP headers per project
With just a few clicks, your chatbot goes from generic to genuinely knowledgeable about your business. Our FAQ answers the most common questions about getting started.
